Everything you should know

Smartphones will indeed take over PRO-Camera’s market share, S20 Ultra is just the beginning of this take-over.

Samsung unveiled their Flagship S-Series Phone yesterday in an launch event. Unlike the 4-phones (S10, S10+, S10e and S10-5G) last year this year’s S-Series consist of three phones, but surprisingly the name-scheme for the new phones made a huge jump form S10, the new phones are called S20’s. Samsung says that they named their phones S20’s in order to match up the number with this new decade.

So, the phones in this year’s S-series are S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra. to conclude it all, I must say that Samsung went for numbers and they produced the best Android phones till date. The specs are Humongous and the major upgrades follows in all the 3 major compartments of the phone – Battery, Display and Camera.

Okay, so as we are done with the specs here.

Let’s talk about these new screens first. So, Samsung used these new screens which are significant upgrades since the S7 Series. The Screens now support 120Hz refresh rate and the touch sensitivity is doubled as compared to last gen flagships. The Screens looks absolute stunners, the only bummer though is – These screens supports 120Hz refresh rate only at FHD+

Talking about the Cameras, The Cameras too are new and upgraded. Samsung was using the same sized sensors in their phones since the S7 series. But the Camera sensors size have been upgraded by a significant number, This will help in better low-light performance and better sharpness overall.

Talking about the Camera in the S20 Ultra itself, Only this phone among the new Trio got a whooping 108MP sensor. Which is just astonishing achievement. The basic pictures coming out of a S20 Ultra are 12MP resolution. The conversion of these 108MP images to 12MP images is something Samsung is calling Nona-Binning, which translates to (pixels combining together to form one big pixel. Theoretically this phone will do phenomenal in low light. We will just wait and see when the device comes out in people hand for everyday usage.

Now lets talk about the big dog in the house that Telephoto lens in S20 Ultra.

Samsung is using this new yet old technology to get crazy zoom capabilities in such as small form factor. Samsung is calling it Folded Lens, its basically the same tech used inside Huawei P30 Pro- They called it periscope lens. So under this tech the light is passed through a prism that reflects it at 90 degrees, which then hits the sensor through these lense placed vertically inside S20 Ultra. This tech allows S20 to achieve somewhere between 4-5x optical zoom and about 10x hybrid zoom. On combining optical and software zoom. This phone can do a whooping 100x zoom. This is revolutionary.

The phones look promising and they are best phones powered by Android as of yet.

So the starting price for base versions is $999 for S20, $1199 for S20+ and $1399 for S20 Ultra.

I will keep you updates as soon as I get Camera samples for these phones.

Thanks for reading.
